The easiest way to find what version of php your website is running:
- Log into your wordpress dashboard
- On the left-hand side of your dashboard, navigate down to Tools > Site Health
- Once in Site Health click on Info > Server
- The Server section will list out other information – PHP is typically listed 2 or 3.
Why do I need to know about php?
PHP is the code that powers your WordPress website. Code is constantly improving and developing. As such, the php version is updated every few years and the lower version is then depreciated or unsupported. If you don’t update to php 8.0, this makes your site vulnerable to malware and malicious attacks from hackers.
As of 11/28/22 php version 7.4 is no longer supported. Some hosting companies are allowing a grace period of a few months. And other hosting companies will allow it longer – for an extra charge.
It’s not that your site will suddenly be attacked or stop working if you don’t update. It means you will be vulnerable and be aware that you WILL be forced to make some decisions in the near future.
If your website is hosted by Zech Design or managed with a Care Plan from Zech Design, knowing your php version isn’t something you have to worry about.
Your site has been tested to ensure everything is running properly. HIGH FIVE!!
I need help figuring this out!
